Instructions for planting hydrangea cuttings

  1. First of all, it is very important that you check that the plant you are going to use to take the cutting is totally healthy. Otherwise, your new hydrangea could grow damaged or simply not come out. Thus, in the first place you must choose a hydrangea that is totally healthy and, in addition, you must carry out this process once it has bloomed. Therefore, the hydrangea from which you are going to take the cutting must have passed the flowering process, that is, the flowers must have come out and grown and their color must already be fading.
  2. Once you have your chosen plant, you must prepare the area in which you will plant your hydrangea cutting. To do this, you can choose a pot or choose to plant your cutting in the ground. In any case, we recommend that you use a medium-sized pot so that you can control the first growth; You will have your hydrangea controlled in storms, hot climates, strong winds, etc.
  3. So, what you have to do is prepare the substrate. In this sense, initially start by putting small stones at the bottom of your pot; the water will circulate better. Next, prepare a mixture of acid soil with mineral soil – alkaline soil would be ideal. In this case, you should put half of one type and half of the other; Mix the two types of soil well to obtain a homogeneous
  4. At this point, it will be time to obtain the cutting. To do this, you can choose to carve a branch of your hydrangea, since we will take the cutting from this chosen branch.  To do this, choose a branch that has a flower and several leaves of considerable size; thus, you must cut this branch from the root, that is, at the point where it joins the main trunk of the hydrangea.
  5. Next, you will need to clean the cutting; therefore, you will have to cut everything that is not suitable for planting. At this point, start by cutting the flower from the chosen branch and go on to carve the leaves from the bottom as well. You must cut the branch so that only the nodes with the buds remain – the part that joins the branch with the leaf. Thus, also cut the cut above and below, so that you only have a cutting with three or four nodes -no leaves, no flower, etc. – at the bottom and the top with four or five leaves. To cut we recommend that you use small pruning shears.
  6. Next, with the cutting prepared and the substrate also ready, it will be time to plant your cutting. To do this, fill the pot with the previously prepared soil mixture; thus, place a thin layer of small stones at the bottom of the pot and then fill flush with the mixture made from the two different soils.
  7. You can then proceed to plant your cutting(s): insert the cutting into the soil halfway.  Thus, you must leave the upper leaves out of the ground and the three or four nodes inside this sand mixture.
  8. Once your cutting is planted, you should wait about 20-25 days until the hydrangea begins to grow. Keep in mind that you should regularly water your hydrangea cutting so that it is always well hydrated; Control the color of the leaves of the planted cutting, since that way you will know if it is well hydrated or, if not, it lacks
