When it is decided to plant a small orchard or it is not very clear what legumes, vegetables, etc. Planting, you have to think of things that are useful and give a lot of play and, incidentally, that is simple to plant and care for. For this reason, broad beans are the vegetables that are always taken into account, for example, in urban gardens.
Broad beans are vegetables. As such, we must take into account what type of garden we have or want to set up. Why do we say it? Because there can be different types of broad beans and different ways to plant it. We will comment on some of them, so that it is taken into account and you are the ones who decide, according to the needs.
As for these vegetables, they are the easiest to maintain, planting / sowing hardly require much care. A couple of basic things: the land, that the sun gives them and as for the water, just enough. Be careful not to water it excessively and in cases where it rains a lot, practically, you could even avoid watering it.
Instructions for and when to plant broad beans
- If you have, for example, an urban garden, you could take into account the broad beans that you prepare yourself at home.
- Placed previously (24 hours before is enough) bought in a supermarket and placed in water, soaking, you have them ready for the next day to be able to plant.
- In small gardens, balconies, urban-type flowerpots… you can plant broad beans by seed. Simply take into account the space, the previously cleaned land, land to plant, irrigation, temperatures… and wait for it to grow.
- And if you already have a garden and you want to plant this popular vegetable, basically, clean the land well of weeds, stones, dirt… Once this is done, keep in mind the type of land that is best for you.
- Do not forget the planting substrate, that there is good humidity without excess water and a lot of sun in this case.
- Be careful with the cold (avoid frost).
- If the seeds are planted, no more than four inches of subsidence will suffice. They cover again and leave space between them.
- If kept in good conditions, germinations can last at least between four and seven years. That is to say, the beans will come out every year.
- As for the time of germination, it will also depend on the time/temperature factor. But count about fifteen days (two weeks up or down).
- When you have planted them, place some small reeds and some string. This will serve so that when they grow, you can tie them to the rope/cord and the bush does not fall and end up breaking or getting entangled between them.
- If you sow on days that are of these moons: that is between the waning moon and the new moon.
What do you need for and when to plant broad beans?
- A pick to chop the soil and leave it soft and free of weeds.
- To shovel
- A rake to leave the soft soil clean and smoother.
- A garden with space, a flowerpot, a large pot…
- Vegetable land. There may also be some clay soil (if you have it in the garden, great, but it can also be bought).
- Beware of frost. If it is already planted, buy plastic to cover it or a small greenhouse so that it does not freeze and spoil.
Tips for and when to plant broad beans
Keep in mind the times of the year to plant the seeds of the beans. Don’t do it when you feel like it or when you don’t touch it, because it will simply either take a long time to germinate and come out or directly, they won’t do it. They will dry up, rot and die without coming out.
Keep in mind, for example, that if you decide to plant the broad beans in the fall, you could start harvesting them in the spring.
Although it is always advised that it is preferable if you want to be able to harvest them earlier, that you do the sowing in spring and thus with the weather and the heat, you will be able to harvest the vegetables at the latest in that same summer and in the best of cases, in the same spring.
Be very careful in harsh winters or autumns. Avoid frost, snow, cold as much as possible… if you already had it planted, put plastic or make a greenhouse.
If you do not dare to start planting broad beans or do not want to do it in a big way because you do not have space or want to spend a lot of money, try something smaller, such as flower pots or small orchards that do not stop being, in short,, planters larger than common pots but made specifically for the function of an urban garden.
The peasants have the custom of sowing (not all, but some) on a few days with a specific type of moon. How are you reading it? The seeds are said to be able to germinate more quickly when the moon is between the last quarter and the new moon.
And, above all, if you have done the planting well, never try to go digging and digging it up in case it takes a little longer than or due to germinate. You will load everything done.
