The planting can be done in pots suitable for obtaining the seedlings and the transplant can be done in large pots or in the ground with prepared soil.
Depending on the type of tomato, depending on its size, the plant, which is an herb with a fragile stem, will bend with the weight of the fruits, so you must prop it up with a cane, tying the plant to the cane so that the tomatoes do not touch the Earth.

What do you need for and when to plant tomatoes?
- Tomato seeds.
- Land prepared for cultivation.
- 50 cm deep pot.
- Very bright and warm place.
Instructions for and when to plant tomatoes
- To start you must have tomato seeds that you can get at any seed store, business that sells land and gardening elements or prepare them yourself.
- To obtain tomato seeds, cut a ripe tomato in half, scoop out all the seeds with a spoon with the thick liquid that surrounds it and place it in a glass container, leave it like this for about three or four days for fermentation to occur, then wash the seeds in a strainer and you will have tomato seeds ready to sow.
- You should also buy soil prepared for cultivation; you can buy some bags of soil ready to place in a large plastic pot or directly prepare an area of your garden with good soil, enriched with substrate and natural fertilizer.
- Turn the soil well before sowing the seeds. Remember that if you do it in a pot, it must be wide, no less than 50 centimeters deep, and it must have holes at the base so that the excess irrigation water drains off.
- The best time to sow tomatoes is in the last days of winter, it depends on the hemisphere in which you live: for example in Spain you should do it between the last days of February and the beginning of March, on the other hand if you are in the southern hemisphere do it between last days of August and first days of September. If the area where you live is very cold, wait for the intense cold to pass, that is, for spring to begin.
- We put the soil in the pot filling it up to half, then we add substrate and complete with soil.
Already in the upper part we must place the seeds remaining one centimeter deep and without direct contact with the substrate. We can spread them and at the end add the last layer of soil. - The pots must be protected from the cold, if they are outside you can make a plastic roof near it to keep the heat and humidity as long as it allows air circulation. Also make sure they get a few hours of sun daily.
- When you see that the stem and the first leaves begin to appear, you should wait until the plant is about 15 cm tall to transplant it to the final place, which can be the orchard, a part of the garden or in larger pots.
- The ideal temperature for the plant to grow well is around 18ºC.
Tips for and when to plant tomatoes
- It is very important that you place the pot with the seeds in a place with lots of light and warmth so that they grow quickly and be transplanted later. Without light, watering and heat they will not grow.
- When you place the seeds, make sure they are not overlapping; they must be separated from each other since you will get a plant from each one and if you plant them very close it will be difficult to separate the seedlings to be transplanted.
