Having some kind of tulips in your home can be the best way to get a good image of it, these flowers, in addition to smelling very good, are very striking to look at, so you will be the envy of family and friends.

However, caring for tulips requires certain knowledge that not everyone knows, if you want to know in detail how to care for tulips continue reading this article where we will explain it step by step.

What do you need to care for tulips?

  • A large pot for each tulip or have a garden where you can plant.
  • Tulip bulbs.
  • That the place where you are going to put the tulip has access to sunlight.
  • Water to irrigate and spray.
  • Fertilizer and special soil.
  • Flower fertilizer.

Instructions for caring for tulips

  1. Get the tulip: In order to plant a tulip you need what is called a bulb, that is, a kind of tulip larva which is onion-shaped. We will go to a florist and ask for tulip bulbs in order to plant them. As for what kind of tulip to choose, we will ask the florist about what color they will come out. Until we go to plant we must make sure not to put these bulbs in the sun because otherwise they could dry out. There is also the possibility of buying already grown tulips they come in pots which is simpler but it will take the fun out of the matter, if you decide to buy the tulip in pots, you can go to step 3 of these tips.
  2. Preparation of the land: Whether you are going to put them in a pot or if you are going to plant them in a garden, you have to prepare the land well so that there are no problems later. In case of choosing a garden, we will leave enough space between the bulb and other plants that let’s put it and in case of choosing a pot we are going to choose a pot big enough to fit the tulip perfectly. As for the land, we must make a mixture of fertilizer and soil so that the bulb has enough nutrients with a fairly large height. Once we have it done, we are going to plant our tulip, for this we will put the bulb in the ground with its roots facing the ground so that they can cling to the ground and absorb.
  3. Watered: You must water the tulip enough so that it can offer the beautiful flowers, we are going to do this every day but with small amounts, mainly watering the soil to prevent it from drying out and a little the leaves to hydrate them. We will do it with a normal spray to avoid drowning the plants. If we have the tulip in the garden, we will have to water it in times of drought and in times of rain we can totally forget about this task.
  4. The sun: The tulip is really an outdoor plant, therefore it needs a lot of sunlight to be able to create photosynthesis correctly, and however this plant also has a tendency to dry out when we put it at temperatures that are too high. The solution is called diffuse radiation, that is, place the plant in an area where it is not directly exposed to the sun but where there is exposure to the sun, in this way the temperature of the leaves will not rise excessively and they will not reach to dry
  5. Flowering and fall: Once spring arrives, the tulip flowers will open and the show will begin; we must monitor the flowers throughout the summer to prevent them from falling prematurely. Unfortunately, when the autumn period arrives, the flowers will begin to wither and fall, leaving the bare bulb again, which is full of energy for the next season thanks to the flowers.

Tips for caring for tulips

  • Replant or wait?: When the petals fall, the tulip bulb will remain bare, this is like starting over since the flowers will grow again the following spring and so on for 2 or 3 more years, however, each year that passes the flowers are a little smaller which could make you lose aesthetic effect. The solution is to remove the old bulb and put a good one in the same place, for which we recommend removing all the root remains of the previous host.
  • Beware of animals: Certain animals such as worms, rabbits or some species of birds can eat your tulip, so keep them away and use some type of repellent spray.
