Instructions for caring for violets
- Origin of tropical plants: The first thing we should know before starting to care for violets is that we should know very, very well the origin of this plant., since in this way, you will know exactly what you must do to be able to take care of these plants correctly. You should know that these plants come from tropical areas, that is, from areas close to the tropics. For this reason, we must try to imitate the characteristics of these tropical areas as best as possible. These areas have the characteristic that they have a lot of humidity, a lot of water, but at the same time, a lot of heat. These plants have come to Europe due to technology and transplants; however, we must try to imitate the climate of these areas as best as possible, otherwise we could damage the plant. We are going to explain step by step how to do this, since in this way, you will be able to have a high-quality plant and, without a doubt, a very healthy plant that will never die.
- Do not irrigate with cold water: Now that we know the environment that we must imitate, we are going to start with the subject of irrigation. In the first place, we must know that since the plant needs humidity, we must water the plant three or four times a week, never less, since this way we will be able to imitate the rainy environment of tropical climates. Of course, you should not go too far, as this could drown the plant and kill it. In the case of what the water should be like, you should look for water with a slightly warm temperature, that is, at the ambient temperature of tropical countries, with warm water. If it is very cold water, black spots will appear on the plant, something that will obviously damage its aesthetics and also its health. As for hot water, this is obviously going to burn the tissues of the plant and damage it in the same way, so you know, you should always try to find lukewarm water, that is, when you touch this water with your hands, touch the water and feel it warm,
- The right and necessary light: Now we are going to continue with the theme of light, to ensure that the violet is cared for in the best possible way. And that we never have a problem of this type. The light in this case must give, but without going too much, since in tropical climates there were large trees giving these plants plenty. If it doesn’t have enough light, it won’t have enough solar energy to be able to photosynthesize properly. However, if it has too much light, we will notice how the leaves turn yellow if you go too far. This will mean that the plant must have more or less a middle ground to avoid all this, something that will be done by changing the plant according to the seasons. In winter it is better to leave the sun because of the temperature issue that I will explain later and in summer better in the shade, to avoid direct contact with the sun. If the leaves begin to notice yellow, you know.
- Never less than 10 degrees: Violets are tropical plants and therefore, they must always be at very high temperatures. In tropical countries, it is very rare to lower the temperature beyond 10 degrees and for this reason; the plant must have this temperature of less than 10 degrees. In this way, we will achieve a very stable temperature for the plant. The way to do this is to be very careful in winter, a season in which it is very likely that you will drop below this temperature, unless you live in Andalusia and in very hot areas such as Murcia. The way to do this is to leave the plant away from the cold at home, but let the light fall directly on it. Being winter, the plant will not be damaged and will stay warm, so don’t be afraid to do this if you want to keep your plant alive and healthy. You can also turn on the heating, as long as the plant is not in contact with the cold outside.
- Fertilizer and avoid pests: Finally, we must learn how this plant can be fertilized correctly, since the fertilizer is necessary to be able to have the soil with the mineral salts necessary for life. In this case, we are going to add a little fertilizer of mineral origin once a month, something that will be more than enough. In the case of pests, we must spray pesticide if we detect any pest such as an aphid or a fly. In this way, we will not only kill the insects that are attacking the plant, but we will prevent new insects from attacking the plant and end up damaging it in this way. Also, you can try some natural incense-based repellent, which will scare away these insects and leave the plant far from their mercy.
