Cinnamon: it is a spice that is sweet and brings aromatic and beautiful flowers.
Lemon: this has a central content, which is the same as that of citrus fruits; its smell is very similar to that of lemon.
Purple: it is planted more for decorative purposes, it has beautiful flowers and a rich essence.
African blue: it is a perennial herb that sprouts every year, unlike the other basils that are annual.
Thai: Have the same characteristics as the previous one.
The Greek and the globe: they are the ones that are more complicated to plant and cultivate, they grow like small bushes, which remain bushy.
  2. You can collect basil seeds by extracting them from a bush that is already in its adult stage,do it in the fall and store the seeds in a paper bag; you can also buy them at a nursery or a garden.
  3. Keep in mind that basil likes to grow in a temperature that is warm, so the best time to plant it is six weeks before the cold arrives or when it has already passed.
  4. If you live in a country where there are seasons, the ideal is that you do your sowing when spring is endingor in the middle of it.
  5. In a special container or bag for planting bushes, you must put special soil for pots (pots) or a mixture of vermiculite and perlite.
  6. Then crush the earth well in order to remove all the air it may have.
  7. Add a few drops of water to the soil to moisten it.
  8. Now take the basil seeds and bury them; they should be about two centimeters down;  you can make the holes with your finger and then cover them well with soil.
  9. At first you should start watering your plant twice a day until germination occurs, which can occur between 3 days and 7 days.
  10. Check your plant, and when you see that it already has at least two leaves, you can transplant it to where you want it, either to a pot (pot), to a container or to the garden.  If only one leaf has come out, it is not recommended that you transplant it.
  11. When the basil plant matures and grows, you will feel that it has a very pleasant aroma and it will be the moment when you can prune or cut it so that you can consume it and prepare your delicious meals.
  12. When you prune it you must take special care not to damage its stemand cut the leaves that are larger.
  13. If you see that the plant begins or blooms, you should remove its flowers, including two leaves down, these would drastically change the flavor of the herb.
  14. You must locate your plant where it receives direct sun.

Tips for growing basil at home

  • This is an annual plant, so you should plant it every year again, except for the African blue.
  • Basils live well in warm temperatures and need the sun for a few hours, so it is recommended that you transplant them in small pots located inside the house next to the windows, so they will receive the sun during the day.
  • It is recommended that you plant your seeds inside the house to prevent them from being suddenly exposed to frost; if you live in a climate that is warm, you will have no problem planting them outdoors.
