What do you need to plant garlic?

  • 1 head of garlic
  • 1 pot (pot) with a minimum depth of 40 cm.

Instructions for planting garlic

  1. If you live in colder areas you can plant your garlic at the end of winter and if you live in warmer areas, it would be ideal between November and February; if you have a terrace or balcony, place them there so that they can get sunlight so they can germinate in the best way.
  2. Take the head of garlic and start separating tooth by tooth, check that they are healthy.
  3. Next, take the pot and put a drain on its bottom so that the water that is left over when watering your plant can easily come out; you can for example put some small stones; in the same place where you bought the pot they can recommend some.
  4. Pour the soil into the pot; remember that it must be deep enough for its roots to develop properly.
  5. The land where you are going to plant the garlic must be well fertilized and stirred.
  6. Take the garlic cloves to put them in the pot, do it 10 cm deep; you must see that the part that is pointed is up, this is super important because that is where its stem sprouts; You must be careful that each clove of garlic is at least 8 cm in relation to the other. If you are going to plant them in a garden, the ideal is to leave a space of 15 cm between each garlic and if you are going to plant several rows, each one should be 30 centimeters apart.
  7. Done, now put your new pot where the sun hits it.
  8. It is a plant that does not need a lot of humidity, so proceed to water it once a week; if in your case you planted it in a garden, with rainwater it will have unless it is dry time, go there to do it at least twice a month.
  9. In approximately 4 or 7 months you will get your garlic harvest and best of all, it will be organic. The harvest occurs when the leaves begin to wither.
  10. One advantage of garlic is that it is a plant that does not suffer from many pests;  occasionally some are seen infected by larvae of beetles and flies. You can do some preventive treatment in mid-April.

Tips for planting garlic
