What do you need to transplant indoor plants?

  • A new pot, obviously, should be larger than the one we already have, about 15 cm larger or more if a greater growth of our plant is expected, the larger the better, as for the material, choose one that is easy for you to handle.
  • Water and a jug or watering can to water the plant.
  • In this case, as we are talking about indoor plants, we need a special soil for indoor plants; it can be bought in florists, in hypermarkets such as Leroy merlin, in specialized garden stores or even in conventional stores.

Instructions for transplanting indoor plants

First of all tell you that the advisable time to transplant is just before the spring season arrives, since that is when our plants are going to grow the most, so we must anticipate this event.

  1. Prepare the pot: You must prepare the new pot for the transplant, you must place the pot near the plant located in the old pot, with the aim of minimizing the path from one to another, once you have it in place, add about 10 cm of the special land that we have bought, once we have done all this we are ready to continue.
  2. Remove the plant from its old pot: The most delicate and difficult step, an error can be the end of our plant, so very carefully you must remove the plant from the old pot, pull little by little and do not be abrupt, make sure not to damage the plant and the roots, if you are lucky the whole plant will come out along with the compacted soil in the shape of the pot.
  3. Carry out the transplant: Now without delay, carefully place your plant in the new pot, you must place it straight to prevent the plant from growing crooked and always be careful not to damage the roots, once it is placed you must use the special soil again, filling in the areas of the pot in which they have been left hollow, the larger the pot compared to the previous pot, the more soil we will have to spend, fill until the pot is full of soil but without overflowing it.
  4. Water: We must feed our plant, the new special soil that we have placed may be too dry, so take your watering can full of water and water the plant but without drowning it, since drowning the plant could kill it instantly.

Tips for transplanting indoor plants

  • Take care of and water your plants: Watering when doing the transplant is not enough, you must take care of your plant whenever necessary, water the plant without drowning it so that it has food, make sure that your indoor plant has some light, although this type of plants it does not need too much light, hence its name, but like all plants they need light, mineral salts, carbon dioxide and water to carry out photosynthesis. For all this, you must take care of your plant if you want it to look beautiful and not die.
  • Be careful with the size of the pot: As we have already said, the transplant only makes sense while the plant is growing, and if we choose a pot that is too small, we will have to carry out another transplant soon, so it is better to choose a somewhat larger one since that way we will save having You have to do more transplants and there will be less risk of spoiling your plant.
  • Cuttings: Many indoor plants, such as the Brazilian trunks, grow a lot and can reach the ceiling, so you must cut the plant. In this and other indoor plants, you can make cuttings from it, a cutting is a piece of the plant, sometimes it is from a piece of stem as in the trunk of Brazil and sometimes it is from a leaf, A cutting has the peculiarity that if it is planted in a new pot, an exact clone of our plant will come out, a clone that we can keep or give to a friend.
