I love the flowers! Its variety, its colors, its aroma. I like both those that bloom at specific times and those that bloom throughout the year. Flowers are a simple and elegant way to decorate our homes, both inside and out. There is nothing more beautiful than a balcony or terrace adorned with beautiful flower beds that delight both owners and passers-by. In my case I have to admit that I have a special weakness for poppies and for any yellow flower. I love!

But what are flowers really?

Well, flowers are the reproductive structure of plants that belong to the group of spermatophytes. Flowers have a very clear function: to produce seeds to allow species to perpetuate themselves. Although all spermatophytes have flowers, these are very different depending on the group to which they belong, whether they are angiosperms or gymnosperms.

  • In the case of angiosperms, they are composed of 4 types of leaves to produce and protect gametes. These leaves are the sepals, the petals, the stamens, and the carpels.
  • Gymnosperms, on the other hand, are characterized by having flowers that gather in strobili or the same flower being a strobilus.

How many types of flowers are there?

The types of flowers are classified by the families to which they belong or by some of their characteristics, such as the shape of their corolla. Today it is practically impossible to know how many types of flowers there are on planet earth, although some botanists believe that they far exceed 10,000 types.

As the variety is so wide, we want to take advantage of this post to see with you some of the most common types of flowers. Do you sign up for the trip? Let’s get started!

Tulip

Today the tulip has become the third most popular flower in the world. Tulips are part of a genus of plants known as tulips and are characterized by being evergreen and bulbous in appearance.

The tulip genus currently has more than 150 species in addition to a truly high number of hybrids. This is due to the genetic improvements that sixteenth-century flower growers achieved on this plant.

Undoubtedly the best-selling tulip known to all of us is the garden tulip. This variety, along with the Tulip fostering, Tulip trade, Tulip closing or Tulip bakery, is grown all over the world and is much appreciated by all.

Today there are more than 5,000 tulip cultivars that are registered and from which the following classification of this unique flower has been developed:

  • Single-flowered early tulips. This classification includes those tulips that reach between 20 and 60 cm in height and whose flowers are simple and bloom between mid and early spring. A very direct exposure to the sun of this type of tulips can cause the flower to wither prematurely.
  • Double flowered early tulips. This variety includes tulips whose size ranges from 25 to 40 cm in height and with the peculiarity of having double flowers that can reach 10 cm in width. These tulips bloom in early to mid-spring.
  • Lily-flowered tulips, with pointed teals turned outwards.
  • Parrot tulips. This variety of tulips can reach, like simple tulips, 60 cm in height. The main difference with this other species is found in the teals, which are twisted and have curled edges. These tulips bloom from mid-spring.
  • Rembrandt tulips. Very similar to the single-flowered tulips, they differ from these in their colors, which seem to be striated and have different shades that seem to resemble flames. This coloration is caused by a virus that can be transmitted to the rest of the varieties, which is why they are grown separately from the rest of the varieties.
